Our internet goes off every day at the same time for about 5 minutes. Strangest thing.

But seriously, could be some kind of wireless interference.

It's so consistent I figured it was something the provider was up to.

It can vary a tad, but usually about 5 minutes before 9 am.

I'd be curious to be snooping at that time with an SDR or something better like a Hack-RF.
Really sounds like wireless interference.
Do you have any wired machines to see if they're affected?

No idea how to do anything like that.
As in IoT devices? Nope.

No, I mean do you have any machines that are connected via Ethernet-only, and not Wifi? And I'm guessing your ISP is wired, and not a wireless one? Just wondering how we might be able to rule out radio interference.
Some businesses and even power utility equipment generate crazy interference at times.

Gotcha, Nope, it's all wifi here.
I believe it's wired, yes.
We're in the middle of a residential area. No big equipment around us.
Thanks for thinking through this.

I'm only somewhat familiar with it because residential interference is something you'll hear
#AmateurRadio
operators swearing about pretty often ;)
If you ever get bored, an RTL-SDR is pretty cheap on amazon. You could use it to get an idea whether or not it's an RF issue or something else. Although do understand that the cheap SDRs don't go very high up the frequency bands, only to about 1.4 Ghz or so, I think.
Edit: spelling

We don't have much around us, just houses. The main avenue in the area is a couple of blocks away.
Thanks for chiming in about this.

ISP hardware patched together with duct tape and chewing gum, router that freezes every few days so they put a 24hr timer on it until they can figure something else out?
Or it could be interference, sounds like a fun puzzle to solve.

Well, that's a first observation. But you needvto dig deeper to find out what exactly happens.
Is your connection to the router going haywire? Why (try ping or arping to see at which level, e.g. if arping works but ping won't it might be at IP address level). Try static IP instead of DHCP.
Is the connection of the router to the Internet provider going down? Exactly every 24 hours? That might be intentional by the provider. But even if not: check the logs of your router to see what actually happens.
"Internet is down" is entirely too coarse a description and you need to find out more detail. Knowing is 1/2 solving!

Hi, there, thanks so much for your reply. I'm a very low-tech user, so while I appreciate the suggestions, I'm not capable of following up on that. Maybe I can find a friend who knows how ...
